Review

Pros: This device features a beautiful 4? Super AMOLED Display, comes with 16 GB of storage, decent camera features, Android 2.1

Cons: Camera is only 5-Megapixels, Android 2.1 is already outdated, 4? display may be too big for some users’ tastes

Looks & Characteristics

The Samsung Captivate is seen to look somewhat like the original Galaxy S, except instead of having more rounded edges, the Captivate has more pronounced and sharper edges. The 4? Super AMOLED display is one of the nicest displays that I have yet to set my eyes upon. Of course, the display isn’t quite as large as phones on the market such as the EVO 4G or Droid X, but 4? is just enough to be impressed without being overwhelmed. The curved bottom lip of the device features four touch-sensitive buttons.

Using The Phone

Like we’ve already stated, the 4? Super AMOLED Capacitive Touchscreen display is not only beautiful, but extremely responsive to the smallest of touches. The Captivate is running Android 2.1 Eclair, which although outdated, is still amazing for this phone. The Samsung Captivate comes preloaded with Swype, the text-input method which is always welcome as an addition. Unfortunately, AT&T has disabled access to acquiring Android applications from outside the Android market - something that they do with every Android device that they release - but that is really our only complaint. Powered by the ARMv7 Core 1GHz Processor, the Samsung Captivate is a super-quick addition to the selection of Android devices that are featured on the AT&T network.

Main Highlights

The interface on the Samsung Captivate is quick and seamless, and Android 2.1 when coupled with the newest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz Interface, is as quick as ever. The 1 GHz Processor in this device also adds to the speediness of the Captivate. Although it doesn’t look too much like the Samsung Galaxy S, the Captivate still stands out of the crowd as being a higher-performance mobile device. It’s 5-Megapixel Camera isn’t the greatest in quality, but still suffices - but the Captivate is topped off by it’s 4? beautiful Super AMOLED Capacitive display - an absolutely beautiful device featured on the AT&T network.
