Today we can see light at the end of the long Tunnel of China’s restrictions. Despite the entire “Google vs. China” Issues that we have seen go raw so often - Chinese mobile carrier Unicom will use the Android Operating System on it’s phones, as announced Wednesday by it’s top executive.
“We acknowledge that Android is a mainstream mobile phone operating system, and we will definitely use it on our mobile phone terminals,” said Chang Xiaobing, chairman and CEO of China Unicom. “We have an open attitude on mobile operating systems.”
Despite Google postponing the availability of Google apps on Phones from Chinese makers, the Mobile carriers in China continue to show a strong and very growing interest in the using of the Android Operating System. Google has stated that in January, it plans to stop the censored results that show up on it’s Chinese version of the Search Engine. This has begun to raise the concern that Android’s reception may be harmed in China in the near future - near enough to make it unusable.
Two Android smartphones being released by Motorola and Samsung have decided to postpone their release dates in order to see what develops and what is cut short with this “forbidden” albeit excellent technology. China’s IT Ministry has stated that it will not resrict the use of Android Phones so long as the OS follows local law. Lenovo - China’s top PC Maker - has stated that Google’s decisions have not effected the release of their upcoming smartphone.
Google.cn is still currently censoring search results for sensitive keywords that will bring up results in the top-10 that are unwanted by the Chinese Government - but such keywords can range from Democracy, Rights, and Human, to BBC, UK, and repression. China has it’s Google.cn results so censored - it’s a wonder why anyone would even use Google in China anymore. We will bring you more information on this news as it develops, only at AndroidTrek.com. [ComputerWorld]
