PROS - The HTC Droid Incredible is a blazingly fast phone with it’s 1 GHz Snapdragon Processor and 512 MB RAM. The Device’s 3.7-inch Touchscreen display is extremely clear and responsive to touch. Multitouch is always a nice feature, and the Sense UI makes navigating this device a breeze.

CONS - The display could be a bit larger. Voice and Data are inaccessible at the same time. The device has a sort of cheap feel to it, being mostly constructed of plastic.

Looks & Characteristics

Every so often there comes a device which enthusiastically outperforms the majority of other devices that are currently competing out on the market. When you couple a device like this with the latest version of a top-notch Operating System such as Android, you get something similar to the HTC Droid Incredible. This phone should come as no surprise, as it was much anticipated by the mobile world through leaks and various pictures that appeared of the phone online before it’s release. What makes the Droid Incredible so great? Just a few features - the Android 2.1 Eclair build with Sense UI, a 1 GHz snapdragon processor, an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, and let’s not forget the beautiful 3.7-inch AMOLED capactitive touchscreen. With all these features coupled together, it’s no wonder people on the Verizon Network are going crazy over the HTC Droid Incredible.

Using The Phone

The HTC Droid Incredible takes the best and most sought-after features in a mobile device and brings them all together under one roof, into one case - the device itself. The 1 GHz Snapdragon processor produced by the company Qualcomm allows the Incredible to reach top-notch speeds for a current mobile device, and when coupled with 512 MB RAM, we can clearly see how this device can be considered a powerhouse. Other features of the phone include the Android 2.1 Eclair build with an overlying updated version of HTC’s patented Sense User Interface. Also included is an 8-Megapixel Camera with a Dual-LED Flash and autofocus, 8 GB of Internal Storage, 748 MB ROM, and a 3.7-inch Capacitive AMOLED Display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The device measures in at 4.63 x 2.3 x 0.47 inches, and weighs a mere 4.59 ounces, which makes it much lighter than many other smartphones on the market on it’s release.

Main Highlights

Overall, this device stands as a great competitor in the market, and on it’s release, is by far the best Android device that is offered on Verizon. The phone is blazingly fast, and has enough speed to dodge the lag that may occur with slower Android devices. The display is extremely responsive, even to the slightest intentional touch, and the multitouch ability that is inherent in the Incredible gives it a feeling of ‘I can do anything onthis phone!’ Although some may complain and critique that the screen is under four inches, this is a great device if you desire to use it as a mobile device should be used. If you intend on watching full-length movies to your enjoyment, you may want to go with a device with a larger screen, but other than that, 3.7-inches is far superior than many of the other devices even on the market. Overall, the HTC Droid Incredible is an amazing piece of mobile technology that will be competing with the top-lines of phones for some time now.

So all of you T-Mobile users who were looking forward to the charm coming out sometime this month (July 2010), rumor has it - you’re going to be a bit disappointed. Rumors received by Androidtrek.com from a reliable T-Mobile source have informed us that the Motorola Charm will now be pushed back into August. The Charm is an Android device which will feature a full QWERTY keyboard, and a 3-inch touchscreen. As to which version of Android it will be running, no one is quite sure yet, but let’s hope it will be 2.0 or higher. It’s unclear exactly why they will possibly be pushing back the release date, but we’ll keep you posted on any updates as they arise.

Something we all could use (at least all of us who can legally drive) is the somewhat psychic ability to know where someone has just pulled their car from a parking spot, thus rendering the spot empty and ready for any passerby to use at their own disposal. Well, Google can’t give you the psychic ability to know these things, but they can give you something close - Open Spot.

Open spot is an application created for Android 2.0 and up which allows you to actually see where there is an open parking space in any parking lot when reported by other open spot users. The jist of it is, you’ve got an android phone (and you use Openspot) and pull into a parking space. You want to go shopping, so you enter the mall for a couple hours, then when you’re back in your car - right before you pull out - you press ‘Mark a Spot’ in Google Open Spot. Now, other Open Spot users can look at their phone and see that the spot which was just occupied by your Green Honda Civic has just become vacant, and they now have their new parking space. Great application - useful only if it were to catch on though. [slipperybrick]

Overview
Pros: The Droid Eris by HTC features a great slim design, is has a ton of features, great performance, and even features pinch-to-zoom multitouch

Cons: The quality in multimedia can be mixed, the device is shipped only with Android 1.5, the phone lacks a file manager, and there is no flash for the camera.

Phone
Intro
The HTC Droid Eris is a popular and high-quality addition to the family of Android devices. With the Eris, you get a sleek and slim performance Android device without all of the extreme bells and whistles - the exact device that you anticipate on using, and a little more for your buck. It’s 528MHz Processor coupled with Android 1.5 upgradable to 2.1 makes the Droid Eris a device that stands out of the crowd.

Looks & Characteristics
Holding the HTC Droid Eris just feels nice. It is a great capacitive touchscreen device, it is slim, and lightweight. The design is a little reminiscent of the HTC touch - similar with it’s smooth round corners and soft touch finish. The feel of the construction of the device is certainly with a solidity that you would hope that have in any smartphone, yet it is slim enough to easily slide into any pants pocket and remain there comfortably. The 3.2-inch HVGA display is extremely sharp as well, and hard to ignore.
Using The Phone
Out of the box, the HTC Droid Eris comes equipped with Android 1.5, but is upgradable to 2.1, meaning that you’ll be using one of the best mobile Operating Systems that are available on the market today. The Android keyboard, depending on how you are holding the device, will change orientation - switching between landscape and portrait. The Capacitive touchscreen is always fairly responsive, although sometimes Android tends to be a bit laggy on this device, as it only features a 528 MHz Processor and 288 MB RAM. Other than that, the HTC Droid Eris is an excellent Android device on the Verizon Wireless network.
Main Highlights
With an upgrade to Android 2.1, the HTC Droid Eris is still an amazingly impressive phone considering just how long it has been out on the market. It is a flashy device that, although not too similar to the more high-end devices featured on the market today, still stands out among the crowd. It’s 5-Megapixel camera may lack the fanciful features that other phones have included, but remains simple and easy to use, and HTC’s Sense UI overlays Android on the Eris to make using this phone a seamless experience. A great and simple Android device all in one sleek and slim body.

Overview
Pros: The LG Ally is certainly a stable device, and it features Android 2.1 Eclair. The slide-out QWERTY keyboard feels and works great. The device also comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth, and EV-DO Rev. A.

Cons: The photo quality isn’t all to great. The Ally lacks Verizon’s V-Cast applications

Phone
Intro
If you’re in the market for aesthetics, or if looks will play a big role in whcih device that you decide to go with, then the LG Ally may not be too appealing to you. It’s definitely not an ugly or standoffish device, but it is rather plan. If you can get past the crust of the Ally, you will definitely notice some positive features about the phone. Just some of these features include a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a high resolution capacitive touchscreen display, haptive and physical search, menu, home, back, and end call keys, and a very light form factor to it. Although the device weighs only 5 and a half ounces, it still feels like something that can remain solid for a few years of abuse, which is a great thing to say about a smartphone these days. Other than the basic, run of the mill features, though - the LG Ally still blends in with the crowd of other black bar slider devices.

Looks & Characteristics
Some desirable features? The LG Ally’s got plenty of them. This device may not be your next Droid, but it certainly serves it’s purpose of being a mid-line Android smartphone just as it should. The LG Ally features an ergonomic black and silver outer case, a 3.2″ tempered glass capacitive touchscreen display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a microSD slot that can support up to 16GB of extra storage, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, has Bluetooth capabilities for bluetooth 2.1, a built-in MPS and WMA music player with library, repeat, and shuffle features, including stereo Bluetooth capabilities, and an easy-to-access one-touch speakerphone and voice commands make using the device a dream. The LG Ally may not look like anything special, but it is far from being ordinary in a game where so many devices fall short of what everyone expects. With the LG Ally, you definitely get what you expect from the device, and you may even find a little bit more of what you didn’t.
Using The Phone
Using the LG Ally, like many other Android phones, tends to be more intuitive. Android 2.1 is, of course, very impressive. The more you’re playing with it, the more you’re going to figure out on the device - I guess that is sort of obvious. You’ll notice that there are 5 home screens - all fully customizable with shortcuts to texts, email, social networking, and other applications. The Android Market enables you to access thousands of Android Applications as well. A Luminous Sensor lies on the device which is designed in order to detect light conditions and adjust the display back-light accordingly, and a proximity sensor locks the touchscreen while you’re talking on the phone to avoid accidentally hanging up on whoever is on the other line. The LG Ally features S-GPS support for turn-by-turn Google Maps directions. Lastly, the 3.2-megapixel camera might not be the best on the block, but it’s nothing that I would complain about. In fact, the camera features 5 different resolutions, zoom up to 4 times, macro mode for closeups, a panorama mode, customizable white balance, shutter sounds, color effects, and it even has a self-timer. Talk time is 7.5 hours max, and the device features 500 hours max of standby, at least that is what the manual states.
Main Highlights
If you’ve been considering purchasing the LG Ally, I would definitely say that it is worth the investment. It seems that LG aimed at creating an advanced device that everyone could afford simply by making the components great, but not top-of-the-line amazing. This device really has everything that any smartphone user would desire, although maybe it could have a higher resolution camera on-board - for those of you who don’t use the camera that often to begin with, this really doesn’t make too much of a difference anyway. Plus, having an OS like Android 2.1 featured on it can make just about any device worth trying.

The LG Ally is a great device which has a solid design and a lot of desireable features for an Android Device. Running Android 2.1 Eclair, this phone does nothing less than impress. On the outside, it may seem plain, but once you get your hands on the LG Ally, you’re going to want one all to yourself. Definitely a solid Android smartphone.

LG Has officially announced that they will be releasing an Android Tablet. This is great news for Android fans who have been waiting for the big manufacturers to break into the market - currently being stuck with one option - the iPad. According to the Wall Street Journal, the LG Tablet could be in stores by Christmas season. Of course, competition will be closely cut with how unexpectedly well the Apple iPad has done thus far.

Android OS is definitely a worthy rival of Apple, although Apple has had much more time in development than Google has with it’s products. I would say that it is safe to assume that a tablet produced by LG which will run on the Android OS will sparkle in the market, to say the least. Although Windows 7 is also a definite rival, already being pre-installed on tablet and netbooks PCs, Google’s open-source free OS should make a good release in tablet form. [inquirer]

Details about the up-and-coming version of Android have been released. Android 3.0, nicknamed Gingerbread, has been revealed by a developer at Google. Not only will Android 3.0 set the bar even higher than it currently is, but it will also have minimum hardware requirements.

Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be compatible only with handsets equipped with at least a 1 GHz Processor, 512 MB RAM, and a display of at least 3.5″. The OS will support a 1280 x 760 resolution is displays of 4-inches and above. This looks to be Google’s way of evening out the user-experience of Android users across the band, and perhaps even better the video and gaming on their OS as well.

Google has recently acquired Palms former webOS interface designer, so we can expect a new experience as well as a new interface with Android 3.0 Gingerbread. Although none of this information has been confirmed by Google itself, Google did state at it’s I/O Conference this year that exciting things were in store for Android. Gingerbread will likely be the last major update for Android in the next 6 to 9 months, as Google is planning on slowing down releases to just 1 major release per year. [informationweek]
