Meizu M9 details released

17 August, 2010 , 9:00 pm

Meizu is a notorious Chinese company known for cloning devices, especially Apple products. The predecessor to the M9 was the M8 which was a clone of the iPhone. The new M9 is ment to be more independent and less of a clone. That’s great for Meizu to expand into the independent smart phone market and will help them avoid legal problems with companies like Apple.

Some of the features of the new M9 indicate that it may not be drifting from cloning after all. The M9′s screen is 3.54 inches and 960 x 640. Does this screen sound familiar? Well it should, it is almost identical to the screen of Apple’s iPhone 4. Other features match up as well like the 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, and even multi-touch. This smart phone may or may not be a clone but it is running Android. Meizu plans on releasing the M9 with their own strongly customized and branded version of Android 2.2. Also the M9 is rumored to have improved Wi-Fi parts and 3D graphics acceleration.

Not everything is known about this device but it is believed that the device will debut in October to China first then possibly spread from there.

Froyo rolls out to Droid Incredible users in two days

16 August, 2010 , 8:59 pm

The newest version of Google’s Android operating system will be distributed to all Droid Incredible devices this Wednesday. Mashable was the first to report this with trusted sources from Verizon. These sources already have Android Froyo 2.2 installed on their Droid Incredible smartphones. Lucky users of other Android devices are already enjoying the bonuses of Android Froyo. Owners of devices like the Evo 4G and the Nexus One have had the newest version for some time.

Why does everyone want Froyo? Froyo greatly improves the Android environment in many ways. It adds functionality of Flash 10.1, Wi-Fi- hotspots, USB tethering, and faster processing speeds, and cloud sync ability. The update also includes Bluetooth voice dialing for safer driving, a updated Google Search and “Move app to SD card feature.” The only downside to the “Move app to SD card” feature is that the application developers must update and allow this option. The memory freeups are substantial with between 30 to 75 megabytes freed.

Vlingo attempts to compete with Google Voice Actions

16 August, 2010 , 7:37 pm

Vlingo is a product for all smartphones that uses speech to complete tasks. Vlingo was almost ahead of its time starting in 2006 believing that voice activated tasks is the next big thing in the mobile industry. Google has since come in and taken advantage of this mobile market and created their own voice enablement software called Google Voice Actions for Android. Both of these pieces of software are good products with numerous similarities and a few differences.

Vlingo and Voice Actions both make performing a task as easy a pushing a button and talking. You can talk into your device and they will write a text message, navigate you to the nearest business of your choice, search the web, call a contact, and even more. Vlingo has fancy names for features like SuperDialer where you say the business name and your device will auto dial it but Voice Actions works just as good.

Vlingo is available on all platforms unlike Voice Actions and even is integrated into Facebook and Twitter. To go along with this Vlingo also has a message reader called SafeReader that Voice Actions does not. Voice Actions will only run on Android 2.2 and up where as Vlingo will run on Android 2.0 and up.

Let us know which one you think is better and why.
